Objects I hardly use: radios

September 8, 2010 in Ramblings

Old fashioned radio in The Sims 3Every expansion focuses on music and its artists, as much as on the objects in the pack. But for me, the music is often an annoying side effect. Usually I’ll be listening to my personal DJ Five, who follows his instincts to pick the music for the evening. And it annoys me if the sims decide to play something that interferes with the mood. So I never give them radios, unless I really really have to.

However, I do like that the music in the game is simified. All songs are in simlish, even those by regular non-sim artists. But to be honest, they’re not my type of artists. And I do allow my sims their own personal music taste, so I can’t all set them to ‘custom’. There is of course the option to mute in-game music. But that just seems wrong to me.

Not giving my sims radios is wonderful. If I could get away with not giving them tv’s, I’d do so too. But tv’s at least have an educational and group function. It is fun to see the sims sitting on their sofa, watching cooking programs together.

The downside of not having sims listen to radios is that I rarely get to see them dance. And maybe if there were more dance options, I’d be more tempted to give them radios after all. So who knows what future expansion packs will bring, that make me change my aversion to radios for sims.
