Objects I hardly use: cars

A cheap car parked in front of a sims houseThere are two simple reasons why I don’t use cars much in The Sims 3: expense and use. Cars are too expensive and include a parking space, and they are rarely used for such an expensive object. Besides, there is a very good taxi-system, and everything is in walking distance!

Maybe it has something to do with not having a car ourselves. I have no driver’s license, and neither does Five. Yes, you are shocked and amazed that we can still function in this fast-paced world, but everything we need can be reached by public transport or by walking there. Except when some of your friends happen to live in small towns south of the Rivers. But if, like in Sim’s neighbourhoods, taxi’s were free, we’d get even there.

Cars are rarely a priority. Not even when, in The Sims 2, you could woo-hoo in the car. Who’d ever do that, really? Surely if you have a bed or a house, you’d explore woo-hoo opions there, right? Would you really go to your garage, or park your car somewhere, and just … woo-hoo? The backseat is not wide enough, the front seats are separated by a dangerously placed stick, and if it is the thrill of being discovered, why not just woo-hoo on a pic-nic blanket outside your car?

I can see no redeeming features in owning a car in The Sims 3, so I hardly buy one for the family I am playing with. However, I may purchase a car for story-purposes. But for story-purposes I use money cheats anyway. Free taxi’s are good enough for when I play. My sims don’t complain.
